MITCHEL DESIGN WAS FOUNDED by principals Howard Shernoff and Mitchell Shernoff in 2000 in Tallinn, Estonia, and quickly became the country's leading mid-size creative firm. In 2008 the agency opened an Amersterdam office, located near the Heineken brewery.
Howard Shernoff began his art career in Paris, France, at the Parsons School of Design. He ultimately earned his degree from the graduate art program at UCSC. From 1993–1999 he lived in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he worked as a freelance copywriter and designer. In 2000 he joined forces with his brother Mitchell in nearby Estonia to found Mitchel Design. Named after the famous Fountainhead character, Howard can't seem to bring himself to settle for less than perfection.
Mitchell Shernoff underwent formal art training at UCSB, graduating from the honors program in 1999. He then began showing his design-oriented work in exhibitions around Los Angeles. His brother Howard's invitation to move to eastern Europe and assume duties as head designer of a new graphic arts firm was too much to resist, so Mitchell moved to Tallinn, Estonia, where he found himself creating some of the country's most innovative commercial art. Named as the result of a poorly organized family raffle, Mitchell believes the key to good design is keeping it simple.
