THERE HAD BEEN THREE incarnations of the consumer-friendly book Payment Refused ever since it was first published in late 1980s. Now, all three had been sold out, the author had written new material and the publisher wanted a new edition. We were invited to take over and sort it all out.

After a month of editing, proofing and consulting, we had the manuscript where it needed to be. Then came the next challenge: how to make a couple hundred pages of biographical information, educational essays, case studies and court testimony readable? Lucky for us, we worship at the altar of thoughtful typography, so it was only a matter of applying our hard-earned skills to the case.

Then we had to make it palatable to the public. We created a half dozen viable cover design concepts. The client chose a bold minimalist concept, which was a drastic departure from the covers of past editions – and a huge hit with reading public.
